HOW WE BEGAN
Tanus Books (Nigeria) Limited, is a subsidiary of Tanus Communications Limited, and specialises in the production of school textbooks and instructional materials. As a company with proven professional pedigree, Tanus Books has made its mark in the highly competitive Nigerian Books sector. Although our prime objective now is to become Nigeria’s Prime publisher of school textbooks of all categories, our ultimate objective is to become Nigeria’s first, major electronic Book publishing company.
We are currently engaged in major contracts to produce new textbooks for public primary and secondary schools in the Cross River State of Nigeria. The books include Computer/Technical Books. In addition, we have jointly produced secondary school textbooks for the government of Adamawa State, and solely produced a large number of primary and secondary school textbooks respectively for the governments of Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Ekiti states, all suitably customised to suit their localities. We are currently in negotiations for similar textbooks with other states including Ogun, Kaduna, Benue, Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi and Nasarawa.
We are also, one of the key suppliers of primary school textbooks to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), under the auspices of the Federal Government Universal Basic Education Scheme which seeks to ensure that every Nigerian child acquires compulsory basic primary school education.
In our desire to support the current national campaign to encourage reading, we have embarked on the massive reproduction of a wide-range of English classics in their rewritten versions for younger readers. Such titles include Tom Sawyer, Gulliver’s Travels, The Invisible Man, and David Copperfield. Arrangements are also underway to obtain copyrights contracts for a number of African and Nigerian classics, in a manner that ensures that such classics are more accessible to younger readers.
In addition, we produce a broad spectrum of reference books, again targeted at young readers; among these are specialised science and nature dictionaries and a special English dictionary specially produced for Nigerian schools.
Some of our other titles that have enjoyed considerable circulation, nationwide and beyond, include: Drama and Theatre in Nigeria: A Critical Source Book (ed.) Yemi OGUNBIYI; The Nigerian Oil Industry - a coffee-table type book written and specially produced for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation; Insurance and Development in Nigeria - produced for the Nigerian Reinsurance Corporation Plc., and 60 years of Winning with Nigeria: The History of Nigerian Breweries Plc: 1946-2006 - a work on the corporate history of Nigerian Breweries Plc., to mark its sixtieth anniversary.
